Bookkeeper
Description
Seattle Girls School is an independent school for fifth through eighth grade girls in Seattles Central District. SGS, founded in 2001, is a fast-paced, fun place to work that demands as much from staff as we do from students. The Bookkeeper is responsible for processing all payroll, payable and receivable transactions, maintaining records and providing administrative and record keeping support to the Director of Business Operations and is a full-time, regular, non-exempt position. Primary Responsibilities
- Ensure accurate and timely processing of both standard and recurring payments to vendors. Work with managers and staff to ensure complete documentation and facilitate timely submission of payment requests.
- Maintain positive vendor relations through prompt research and resolution of billing errors or disputes by phone and/or letter as appropriate.
- Maintain accurate documentation of 1099 status of vendors and payments. Prepare 1099s annually as required by law.
- Accurately record receipts from student families and donors, maintain positive relations with same.
- Ensure accurate and timely processing of monthly payroll, including data entry, transmission for outside processing and distribution of checks and reports. Maintain comprehensive files including related tax reports.
- Process and maintain required employee records, files related to medical, dental, pension and other employee benefits. Ensure that employees are properly enrolled and terminated from benefits when appropriate.
- Reconcile monthly benefits billings and prepare for payment.
- Responsible for filing and upkeep of personnel records within Human Resources.
- Assist with conducting benefits informational meetings for new and existing employees.
- Assist in conducting new employee orientation.
- Maintain complete vendor and payroll files.
Secondary Responsibilities
- Assist with preparation of documentation for annual audit.
- Maintain current documentation of policies and procedures for all assigned duties.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- BA degree and 3 years of relevant experience.
- Two to three years work experience in a computerized accounting environment, preferably using Quickbooks, including payables processing, data entry, reconciling billings and reports and maintaining detailed files.
- 10-key by touch; keyboard 50 wpm.
- Demonstrated skills and strong working knowledge of MS Office, including Excel, and Word.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Proven ability to work well in a team.
- Ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines consistently in a time-sensitive environment.
- Strong attention to detail, with a high level of accuracy.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of financial, personnel, client and donor records.
- Comfortable working with people of all backgrounds.
- Customer service orientation with ability to support diverse needs.
