Engineering Design

On Tuesday or Thursday afternoon, students will have 90 minutes to work on an engineering design challenge.  Task we have attempted or are planning to attempt in the fall:
The Toy Glider Project is an extended design challenge that will last for multiple weeks.  The curriculum and materials are supplied by the Society of Automobile Engineers through their curriculum, A World in Motion.  This project includes studying demographics and other statistics to determine the what type of toy to create as well as the science of gliders and embedded algebra.

By second term, we will move towards students determining an area in which they would like to design a scientific study that relates to our upcoming Mission to Mars.  Some suggested areas for independent projects are hydroponics, propulsion and flight systems in space, fiber optics and advanced circuitry, solar energy, robotics and geology.
