Financial Aid
SGS was founded with the goal of making the school accessible to all students, not just those who can pay. As a result of this strong commitment to economic diversity, the Board of Trustees has committed to providing a minimum of 30% of the student body with need-based financial aid.
Based on demonstrated need, SGS financial aid awards range from approximately 10% to 90% of tuition. Families with needs extending beyond tuition (ex. athletics, school trips, etc.) are supported financially on a case-by-case basis and in proportion to their financial aid award.
For the 2011-2012 school year, 39% of the student body was awarded need-based financial aid, with an average grant size of $12,840.
Financial Aid Application Process
In order to be considered for financial aid, families must submit:
- An SGS Financial Aid Application Form
- Copies of 2010 and 2011 tax forms
- Form 4506t - signature only required.
- The School & Student Service for Financial Aid (SSS) Application (our School's SSS Code is 2546)
- All items are submitted directly to SSS. Please retain copies for your records!
SSS is a national organization that works with independent schools to provide an analysis of a family's finances and determine a suggested contribution for educational expenses. SGS considers all components of the financial aid application before determining awards.
Financial aid decisions are prioritized in the following order:
- Current SGS families who have received aid in the past, apply on time, and qualify for aid.
- New applicants to the 5th and 6th grade who apply on time and qualify for aid.
- Current SGS families who have not received aid in the past, apply on time, and qualify for aid.
- Current SGS families who have received aid in the past, qualify for aid, but apply late (6th, 7th and 8th grades).
- New applicants to the 7th and 8th grade who apply on time and qualify for aid.
- New applicants who qualify for aid but apply late (6th, 7th and 8th grades).
Financial Aid Forms
You can download the SGS financial aid above as well as access the SSS by NAIS system here to begin the process of applying for financial aid. Due to the loss of three business days to inclement weather, the deadline for financial aid has been extended to February 8, 2012. Please ensure that all items are received by School and Student Services for Financial Aid (SSS) by this date. Any financial aid applications received by SSS after the deadline will be considered after 'on time' applications.
Admission decisions are made independently of financial aid decisions.
