Seattle Girls' School Receives $2,500 Best Buy Teach Award to Enhance Technology in School Curricula

Seattle, WA Seattle Girls' School is proud to announce that Best Buy has awarded a $2,500 Teach Award to eighth grade science teacher Mary Margaret Callahan and to Seattle Girls' School for integrating interactive technology into the curriculum.  The funds will be used to enhance "The Production", a yearly project that involves the creation of a feature-length film that is written acted, filmed and edited by Seattle Girls' School eighth graders.

"It is so amazing to give students the ability to direct their own learning.  They create a film that is entirely their own and in the process learn key technical skills as well as how to work collaboratively.  Thanks to Best Buy we are able to get more technology into the hands of more students.  Access to technology is key for students who plan to be competitive in society and in the work force," says Mary Margaret Callahan.

The grant money will be used to purchase digital video cameras and other production materials, which will also be used for the seventh grade video documentary project titled "Seattle From the Ground Up."  Seventh grade students culminate their learning by creating a documentary of a neighborhood as a team, which includes interviews of local leaders as well as their narrative perspective. Fifth and sixth grade students will also be able to utilize the new equipment in the classroom and on field trips.
