At SGS, our volunteer community is instrumental to the education and development of our students.

From our programmatic volunteer opportunities like Mentoring or Teaching an Internship; to ad hoc opportunities like proofreading presentations before a culminating event or providing transportation to an internship, we're confident that you'll find something to meet your time availability.

Become a Mentor

The Seattle Girls' School has created a Mentor Program, which serves to facilitate our students' personal, educational and future career development through relationships with role models in our local community.

You can learn more about the Mentor Program by clicking here.

Tutor at the Homework Center

We're seeking volunteer tutors to work at least one day a week in our after school Homework Center.

Volunteers will work one-on-one with sixth and seventh grade students, helping with homework in a variety of subjects.

Homework Center runs Monday through Thursday from 3:45-4:45.

If you are interested, please call (206) 709-2228 and speak with the Volunteer Coordinator.

Teach an Internship

Internships run for six weeks of Wednesday afternoons from 1:15-3:15.

In each six-week block, students select their internship topic from a list of available classes.

Internships allow students to pursue an interest beyond the rest of the curriculum. The final Internship of the year is designed and proposed by each student herself to allow her to pursue her particular passion in a way uniquely matched to her dreams.

Past internships have included:

  • MIDI-Music Technology
  • Junior Achievement
  • Digital and Still Photography
  • Mural Design
  • Sculpture
  • Rhythm and Rhyme Poetry
  • Galloping Gourmet Cooking
  • Community Service Projects
  • Theater Design
  • Journalism
  • American Sign Language
  • Geodesic Design
  • Sound Engineering
  • Law and Mock Trial
  • A Capella Singing

If you'd like to offer an internship (for 10-12 students), please contact the Internship Progam.

Teach Phys Ed or Coach

Physical Education: All SGS Students have physical education included three times during their weekly schedule.

We try to introduce or further students' interest in personal fitness by offering a variety of different experiences throughout the year during physical education.

Past programs have included Personal Fitness Training, Kung Fu, Yoga, Ewoja Dance, and Swimming.

Competitive Teams: SGS fields five different teams throughout the course of the school year.

In the fall, SGS students take to the field for soccer and cross country.

In the winter, they train for Basketball.

The spring finds SGS students back out on the fields learning and competing in Lacrosse and Track and Field.

Competitive teams are open to all students at any level of experience.

Practices are held after school, from 3:30-5:00pm, and game times and location vary by season.

If you would like to teach a PE class, coach, provide transportation, or help to manage a team, please contact the Sports Coordinator at (206) 709-2228 or e-mail the Sports Program.
