A Timely Billboard Above SGS in 2010

Seattle, WA – On Tuesday, October 16, 2012, Seattle Girls’ School (SGS)will host a voter awareness rally to encourage greater civic engagement and voter participation in the Seattle metropolitan area. This event will be held at Westlake Plaza around the lunch hour.

To increase civic awareness in the upcoming election, SGS students are demonstrating that they can use the power of their voices and ideas, even if they are not yet of voting age, to become involved in the process. The students will demonstrate concepts they are learning in the classroom such as the history of voting rights in the United States, voter turnout in recent elections and the impacts of this on a democratic society. Students will deliver non-partisan speeches they have written themselves addressing why voting is an essential part of citizenship and highlighting issues of personal importance.
