Destination SGS

Outside Spaces

At SGS the neighborhood and nature are an extension of the classroom and our outside spaces will be used not only for the casual enjoyment for our community, but also academic exploration. There is a rain garden, or bio retention garden gathering all rainwater on site and from the building, then filters it through plants, and very specific soil to remove any contaminates before releasing the water into the City storm system. The pond will also retain water in a heavy rain and slowly release it to mitigate the impact on the City’s system. In the event of an excessive amount of rain, the pond includes overflows to keep the site from flooding. There is also a portion of the grassy area that is actually where the future gym will be in Phase II of our permanent home construction.

There will be four 20’ containers for storage of seasonal supplies and allow for classroom space to house only what is currently in use for instruction. There is also an area where above ground gardening will be placed in the future.
Located in the Central District, Seattle Girls' School is an independent school for girls and gender nonconforming students in grades 5-8. Our mission is to inspire and develop courageous leaders who think independently, work collaboratively, learn joyfully, and champion change.
