Our Sharon Hammel Garden, named after Seattle Girls’ School Founder, was completed in the 2013-2014 school year through generous donations and many volunteer hours. The project includes a vegetable garden, wildflower garden, rain garden, and green house. The garden not only beautifies our campus, but it serves many purposes including a backdrop for curriculum and a place for students to gather outside.
Here’s a look at what it took to complete our garden:
- 68 volunteers
- 470 adult volunteer hours and many student volunteer hours during lunch and advisory time
- 61 cubic yards of soil, compost, and mulch, which is equivalent to 275 wheelbarrow loads
- 3 trips to the RE Store and way too many trips to Lowe’s and Home Depot
- 5 Craigslist transactions
