Fall Sports Recap

by April
The SGS Athletics department has been busy the last few months kicking off fall sports. We were able to actively participate in the Cascade Middle School League, playing schools as far north as Mountlake Terrace, down south near Renton and many schools on the Eastside. As sports here at SGS are no cut, every student has an opportunity to experience healthy competition, gain exposure in their respective sport, focus on sport specific skills while working on their own personal leadership and skill development to do their personal best.

Cross Country has had a solid year despite dealing with the air quality and canceled meets. The team has been able to explore their new surroundings with the permanent campus move and have direct access to trails and the I-90 bridge for their practices. We were able to participate in five meets this season with every runner putting their best effort each meet and cheering on teammates throughout the season.

Our soccer team finished the season strong with plenty of competition. We were so glad to be able to bring back the annual adults vs. kids soccer game. It was great to see the adults from SGS staffulty and families come out and play. We ended the last three minutes of the game with an all call and all the students and staff who came to cheer on the teams charged the field to get one last score.

Our volleyball teams were so happy and excited to be back in the gym to play this year.  For many of the players, it was their first time playing volleyball ever. Due to a pandemic, we were not able to offer volleyball the last two years. The players improved each day and each game.

Fantastic job this season to all the athletes, coaches this season and a huge shout out to all the fans who came and supported our teams.
