Intensives!

by Phelana
From December 5 to 15, we will be pausing our regular classes, and students will spend half the day in a STEAM intensive and half the day in a Humanities intensive. STEAM intensives (Sweet Sweet Science, Illuminations, Utopia Village, and Making Your Own Instrument) will be cross-grade (5th-8th). For the Humanities intensive, 5th and 6th grade students will be doing “Becoming a Comics Storyteller,” 7th grade students will be preparing for Mock Trial, and 8th grade students will be engaging in filmmaking challenges.  For 30 minutes in the morning and afternoon, students will also do teamwork and physical challenges in Spanish. We can’t wait for this next exciting opportunity for our students to further develop their leadership during Intensives!  As we shared with students in presenting the intensives options:
  • Leaders have a growth mindset about new things.
  • Leaders communicate well across age groups (youth and adults).
  • Leaders problem-solve creatively with others.
  • Leaders practice inclusion, equity, and community building.
  • Leaders practice kindness, cooperation, and integrity.
Students were given their Intensives schedule earlier today.  Please ask your student about it!  Note that there is a shift in lunch time (11:15-12:00).
