Electricity Study!

by Marcele
Students were introduced to the concept of electricity by identifying it as an unseen, but pervasive and important presence in their lives. Students are presently studying the power of static electricity and have conducted numerous experiments to understand the imbalance between negative and positive charges in an object. Through various engineering challenges and activities, students will understand the basics of electrical circuits. They will  construct simple, series, and parallel circuits with switches by making paper circuits, using copper tape, LED's, and coin cell batteries. They will test a variety of materials in the classroom to determine whether it is a conductor or an insulator based on its capabilities for electron flow. Later, they will apply this knowledge when they design and construct an illuminated power accessory for their superhero costume for the Comic Con culmination coming up in March.
