Interdisciplinary Connections in Language Arts

by Liz
One of my favorite aspects of the Language Arts curriculum is the ways in which it can “plug in” to other subjects, magnifying the learning for students. This spring, we will jump into several interdisciplinary investigations!

In the 8th grade, we will be writing our Artist Statements in both Art class and Language Arts class, emphasizing the idea of artistic point of view. Later this spring, we will be exploring topics from Social Studies through the musical The Band’s Visit and learning about the musical aspects of the show with Christina! In the 7th grade, our Pay It Forward Project, a capstone of the year, will include writing children’s books about our topics and the activists who champion change. We will also engage in some science writing and even read a scene from Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream through a lens of climate change!
