Welcome to 6th Grade art!

by Ani

Fall term of 6th-grade art was all about introducing the students to Nick Cave and learning about his amazing soundsuits. From there we began to think about what values are important to us and how we could express them visually through a sculptural piece. All students have been given a bike helmet that they are building on to create an otherworldly mask.  Students are using cardboard, wire, tape, and paper mache to bring these wonderful avatars of their values to life.  6th graders are great at working with paper mache and have been realizing some really exciting designs. This week more students will be getting to the paint stage which is where these amazing sculptures start to really show themselves.  Inset: A Nick Cave soundsuit next to an SGS mask.
