People of color who are interested in working at independent schools are invited to attend the 2024 Diversity Career Fair hosted by POCIS Seattle on Sunday, February 4, 2024 for the virtual fair and Saturday, March 9, 2024, for the in-person fair, hosted at Seattle Girls' School. This career fair is offered through the collaborative effort of 25+ regional schools. Attendees of the career fairs will hear from diversity practitioners about working in independent schools and learn about current career opportunities in teaching and staff positions.   • Middle School Humanities Teacher

    Our Mission is to inspire and develop courageous leaders who think independently, work collaboratively, learn joyfully, and champion change.

    We seek a full-time 6th Grade Humanities Teacher starting August 2024. At Seattle Girls’ School, we use an experiential, joy-filled, inquiry-based approach. We seek teachers who are collaborative, flexible, and love learning and doing alongside middle school girls and gender nonconforming students. Teachers work collaboratively to write original curriculum (no textbooks here!) that is project-based and hands-on, and integrates anti-bias work into everything they do.
     
    Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
    • Engage students in differentiated and meaningful learning through culturally responsive teaching practices
    • Build upon the existing curriculum to design innovative learning experiences that are motivating and relevant to middle school girls and gender nonconforming students.  
    • Design and engage students in projects that integrate reading, writing, and social studies, with a focus theme of identity.
    • Participate in a grade team by collaborating daily with grade level teachers to support interdisciplinary curriculum and logistics, including scheduling, events, trips (including a multi-day overnight trip), and student concerns.
    • Serve as an advisor to a small group of students, providing academic support and integrating social-emotional, anti-bias, and social justice learning based on shared grade-team goals
    • Provide meaningful ongoing assessment and feedback to support student growth, and partner effectively with families.
    • Write progress reports for each student at the end of each evaluation period.
    • Beyond your curricular responsibilities, actively engage around the larger mission of SGS to develop students’ leadership and their understanding of social justice.
    • Model a growth mindset by learning alongside students and colleagues.
    • Engage in continuous personal identity development work, specifically in regards to race and privilege, and support students in their own learning.
    • Provide a safe and active environment that will benefit each SGS student.
    • Other duties as needed.
    Qualifications:
    • B.A./B.S. is required.
    • WA State Teaching Certification, or Master’s Degree is a plus.
    • Two or more years of experience working with youth or instructing students in a classroom setting is a plus.
    • A high level of cultural competence and sensitivity to the needs of middle school-aged girls and gender nonconforming students.
    Compensation:
    Salary and benefit package commensurate with experience.  The annual salary range for our faculty is $66,500-$88,500. SGS uses a salary scale that takes years of experience and degrees attained into account. All faculty are compensated according to the scale and dependent on those two data points.

  • Track Coach

    Description: Athletic coaches wanted  for spring season at  Seattle Girls’ School. The coaches are responsible for all aspects of directing a team’s practices, games and meets. 
    Season runs from  April- early June . Practices are 3:30pm-5:00pm. Days are Mondays-Fridays, no weekends. Meets are evenings from 5:30-8:00pm. 
     
    Responsibilities:
     
    ·      To teach skills through the use of the games approach and through effectively planned practices at a level appropriate for each member of the team.
    ·      To supervise the players before, during and immediately following practices and games.
    ·      Accompany team to scheduled contests to and from competitions and practices. 
    ·      To provide a safe and enjoyable environment for all players.
    ·      To serve as a positive role model to players, parents, officials, and fellow coaches in all aspects of speech, attitude, and behavior.
    ·      Be consistent in attendance of practices, and games. Be on time!!
    ·      Stress fun, skill development, and fundamentals. Winning is secondary to these priorities.
    ·      Learn and follow all league rules, policies, and procedures.
    ·      To communicate with the Athletic Director on all matters of policy and procedures. Attend any scheduled coaches meetings.
    ·      Understanding of the school’s philosophy and being able to implement those beliefs into the program.
     
     
    Preferred Qualifications:
     
    ·      Coaching knowledge and expertise of the sport.
    ·      Successfully complete the application procedure, pass the background check.      Must be patient, dependable, and organized.
    ·      First Aid/CPR certified or willing to obtain before the season starts.
    ·      Social justice/anti bias awareness
    ·      Cultural competency 

    All coaches must be fully vaccinated prior to the start of coaching and submit proof of vaccination. 
     
    Supervisor:  Reports directly to the Athletic Director.
     
    Compensation: SGS offers competitive compensation depending on experience.
