Family Ed - Supporting Students in the Middle Years

Supporting Your Middle Schooler: A Caregiver's Guide to Resilience and Connection

Parents and Guardians are invited to join us at Seattle Girls’ School for an engaging evening from SGS founding faculty and Outreach Specialist Rosetta Lee as she speaks on the needs of middle school youth.  Becoming a middle school student can be fraught with challenges at every corner. How do we keep our students resilient through this turbulent time? In Part 1, we examine gender differences and bias and how they can lead to perfectionism, self doubt, and relationship drama.  In Part 2, we learn how socio-emotional and identity development affects young people's search for peer acceptance and group membership, tackling the tensions of fitting in and belonging.  In Part 3, we explore adolescence and how it manifests as seeking autonomy, drawing away from adults, inconsistent decision making, and risk taking.  Discover what research says about best practices toward connectedness, resilience, healthy relationships, and self esteem - and how SGS applies what we know into what we do and how we do it.
