  • Basketball Coach

    Description: Athletic coaches wanted for basketball at Seattle Girls’ School. The coaches are responsible for all aspects of directing a team’s practices and games.
    Season runs from Mid December -Mid March . Practices times vary from 3:45-5:45pm. Game times are from 4:00-6:00pm.

    Responsibilities:
    · To teach skills through the use of the games approach and through effectively planned practices at a level appropriate for each member of the team.
    · To supervise the players before, during and immediately following practices and games.
    · Accompany team to scheduled contests to and from competitions and practices.
    · To provide a safe and enjoyable environment for all players.
    · To serve as a positive role model to players, parents, officials, and fellow coaches in all aspects of speech, attitude, and behavior.
    · Be consistent in attendance of practices, and games. Be on time!!
    · Stress fun, skill development, and fundamentals. Winning is secondary to these priorities.
    · Learn and follow all league rules, policies, and procedures.
    · To communicate with the Athletic Director on all matters of policy and procedures. Attend any scheduled coaches meetings.
    · Understanding of the school’s philosophy and being able to implement those beliefs into the program.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    · Coaching knowledge and expertise of the sport and experience working with middle school age students.
    · Successfully complete the application procedure, pass the background check. Must be patient, dependable, and organized.
    · First Aid/CPR certified or willing to obtain before the season starts.
    · Social justice/anti bias awareness
    · Cultural competency
    All coaches must be fully vaccinated prior to the start of coaching and submit proof of vaccination.
    Supervisor: Reports directly to the Athletic Director.
    Compensation: SGS offers competitive compensation depending on experience.

  • Part-Time Learning Support Specialist

    We seek a part-time learning specialist starting February or March 2026. At Seattle Girls’ School*, we use an experiential, joy-filled, inquiry-based approach. We seek teachers who are collaborative, flexible, and love learning and doing alongside middle school girls and gender expansive students. Teachers work collaboratively to write original curriculum (no textbooks here!) that is project-based and hands-on, and integrates anti-bias work into everything they do. This part-time learning specialist position (20-30 hours/week) is an opportunity to support students and teachers in making the most of a transformative SGS experience.
    Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
    • Build upon the existing academic culture of SGS to support teachers in providing innovative, motivating, and relevant learning experiences for middle school girls and gender expansive students.  
    • Engage students in differentiated and meaningful learning through culturally responsive teaching practices.
    • Write and manage individualized learning plans that target specific curricular/learning needs and outline necessary classroom and testing accommodations.
    • Interpret educational evaluations and conduct student observations to identify helpful strategies and accommodations.
    • Act as case manager to all students who have a learning plan, providing one-on-one or small group support related to study skills, executive functioning, and personal empowerment. 
    • Lead goal setting meetings once a year with learning plan families. 
    • Oversee academic accommodations for students with learning plans in the classroom and on standardized tests.
    • Provide ongoing consultation and referral for new testing and retesting, tutors, and other supports. 
    • Assume an active role in grade-level student support meetings and meet regularly with the Dean of Students and Assistant Head of School.
    • Collaborate with outside service providers, including speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, tutors, therapists, and psychologists to support students.
    • Provide consultation to classroom teachers regarding classroom accommodations, instructional modifications, adaptive equipment, and other similar instructional interventions to meet the needs of students with divergent learning needs.
    • Work with classroom teachers and other specialists to identify and support gifted students, providing appropriate academic challenges and enrichment opportunities.
    • Teach a once-weekly class in the fall term to support all 7th grade students with study skills, executive functioning, and personal empowerment. 
    • Support the admissions process by attending Open Houses, meeting with prospective families, and reviewing applications for students with learning support needs.
    • Beyond your curricular responsibilities, actively engage around the larger mission of SGS to develop students’ leadership and their understanding of social justice.
    • Model a growth mindset by learning alongside students and colleagues.
    • Engage in continuous personal identity development work, specifically in regards to race and privilege, and support students in their own learning.
    • Provide a safe and active environment that will benefit each SGS student.
    • Other duties as needed.

    Qualifications:
    • B.A./B.S. is required
    • Master’s Degree in Special Education or a related field preferred 
    • Classroom teaching experience in upper elementary and/or middle school grades preferred
    • Experience with middle school-aged students
    • Experience with student support for learning differences, especially related to reading, math, and attention/executive functioning
    • Experience reading and analyzing educational testing evaluations
    • A high level of cultural competence and sensitivity to the needs of middle school-aged girls and gender expansive students
    Compensation:
    Salary and benefit package commensurate with experience. The annual salary range for our full-time faculty is $66,800-$88,500. SGS uses a salary scale that takes years of experience and degrees attained into account. All faculty are compensated according to the scale and dependent on those two data points.  Employees at 0.65 FTE or above will receive benefits.

Belonging at SGS

SGS is part of POCIS Northwest (People of Color in Independent Schools) and will be present at both Diversity Career Fairs hosted by POCIS.

People of color who are interested in working at independent schools are invited to attend the 2025 Diversity Career Fair hosted by POCIS Northwest on Sunday, February 9, 2025 for the virtual fair and Saturday, March 8, 2025, for the in-person fair. This career fair is offered through the collaborative effort of 20+ regional schools. 

Attendees of the career fairs will hear from diversity practitioners about working in independent schools and learn about current career opportunities in teaching and staff positions.
