Every year, each grade at Seattle Girls’ School heads out on its own special adventure during Fall Trips week. These trips are designed to strengthen community, build confidence, and give students the opportunity to dive into hands-on, team-building experiences that set a positive tone for the year ahead.
Collaboration is one of our core values at SGS, and this adventure-filled week gives students the chance to start practicing those skills early—laying the foundation for the group projects, challenges, and discoveries that await them throughout the school year.
Here are a few reflections from two of our faculty members:
"The goal of 6th grade camp is to build and strengthen relationships. Students participated in the low ropes course with their advisory, rotated through nature based activities with blended groups, and sat with new students each meal. On the first night, each student brought an item from home that is important to them and shared a story of how that item connects to their values. It was a vulnerable space for students to share more about themselves and a chance for peers to show trust and respect. This is a long standing tradition from the 6th grade fall trip." — Shannon, 6th Grade Math
"Last week our 5th grade students participated in two memorable team-building experiences—one at Seward Park and another at the Seattle Bouldering Project. These adventures offered powerful opportunities to think independently, work collaboratively, learn joyfully, and champion change, reflecting the heart of the Seattle Girls’ School mission. At Seward Park, students connected with nature through cooperative challenges and group reflections that highlighted communication and curiosity. At the Bouldering Project, they supported one another through climbing activities that required trust, courage, and problem-solving. Both experiences strengthened our sense of community and reminded us how capable our students are when they take risks, encourage one another, and lead with confidence and empathy." — Coach Cody, 5th Grade
